What Is My State's Workers' Compensation Insurance Requirement?

Most states require employers to carry Workers’ Compensation insurance coverage for your employees. If your employee experiences an illness or an injury on the job, workers’ compensation insurance helps cover medical expenses and lost time away from work.

Each state has different laws for who is required to carry workers’ comp coverage and how to obtain it. If you do business in North Dakota, Ohio, Washington State, or Wyoming, these states require you to obtain workers’ comp coverage through their own state fund.
