FAQ: If a tax filing failed because another company already filed
Q: I don't know who would have filed this, can you tell who did?
A: No. We only get an error that says we can't file for a form and period that already has a return on file. You will have to check with your former accountant or payroll provider to see if they did.
Q: No one else would have filed. Why am I getting this?
A: Most commonly, we see that a previous payroll provider is unaware that they shouldn't be filing any longer so they keep filing zero liability returns for you when they shouldn't.
Q: Can you guys amend this return to match what I have in my Patriot account?
A: We can, but we will need you to get the original form that was filed so we can use it to fill out the amendment since the amendment asks for the original form's figures. If you are confident that the original was a zero return, we can use that assumption to fill out the return.
