The software will prefill the employee deduction and contribution in certain instances based on the type of deduction you have selected.
For example, 401(k) employee deductions need to be reported in Box 12, label D. Based on the chosen deduction type when adding a deduction, the W-2 Box and W-2 Label fields will now be pre-filled. Note, not all deduction types will show pre-filled values.
For Pretax Section 125, the W2 box and label is unmarked, although we do give guidance for the most common use of Pretax Section 125 deductions, employer sponsored healthcare.
This pre-fill feature is both in the payroll setup wizard and in the payroll software settings, and only on the "Add" company-level deduction and contribution pages. If an existing deduction or contribution is edited, no assumptions will be made and nothing will be automatically pre-filled.
We recommend that you confirm via IRS W-2 Instructions that you are using the correct W-2 Box and label.
