Tracking Employee EEO Data

The article explains how employers track Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) data, covering employees' gender, race, and job classification.

Available to HR Software

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is responsible for enforcing federal laws that prohibit employment discrimination. Certain employers with either 50 or 100 or more employees are required by federal law to track and report the gender, race, and job classification for their employees annually on the EEO-1 report. Tracking Employee Federal EEO Data

You can add the employee’s EEO data at the time you add the employee. 💡 If the employee has registered for their employee portal, they can self-identify their veteran status on their Personal Info page and this will automatically show in their record. Employees are asked, but not required, to indicate whether they are a protected veteran.

  1. Go to Payroll > Employee List > {Employee Name} > Employee Profile

  2. Click “Edit” on the Employee Info section

  3. Select the employee’s sex.

  4. Select the appropriate EEO Classification. For assistance with categorizing your employees based on their job, you can refer to the EEO-1 Job Classification Guide.

  5. Select the employee’s race.

    • If the employee has registered for their employee portal, they can self-identify their race on their Personal Info page and this will automatically show in their record. Or the employee can self-identify their race through a form.

  6. Click “Save” at the bottom of the section.

HR customers will be able to run a demographics report that will provide you with the data you need to enter on the EEO-1 form each year. For more information, check out our Employee Demographics Report help article.
