How to Change an Hourly Pay Rate During Payroll

This article explains how to update an employee's hourly pay rate during payroll step one in Patriot, with the option to apply the change to the current payroll only or to all future payrolls.

Available for Basic Payroll, Full Service Payroll

You can change an employee's hourly pay rate mid-payroll in Patriot — either for a single payroll or permanently going forward. This is useful when you've already started entering payroll data and realize the employee's pay rate needs to be updated before finalizing.

How to Change an Employee Hourly Pay During Payroll

  1. On payroll step one, click the employee's name.

  2. A module will appear showing the employee's current pay rates, roles, and departments (if your company uses departments).

  3. Update the employee's hourly pay rate and any other pay information as needed.

  4. Select the appropriate radio button to indicate the scope of the change:

    • This payroll only — the updated rate applies to the current payroll run and then reverts

    • Current and future payrolls — the updated rate is saved to the employee's profile and applies going forward

  5. Click Save Pay Information.
