Coming Q4 2026!
Available to: Employees whose employer uses Patriot HR Performance Reviews
A performance review self-assessment is your chance to share your own view of your work before your reviewer writes your review. You complete your self-assessment in the Patriot employee portal. After your reviewer shares your final performance review, you can read the review, acknowledge it, and download a copy. To open this help article from the employee portal, select the ? help icon next to the Performance Reviews header on the Self-Assessment page.
How to Complete Your Self-Assessment
How you know your self-assessment is waiting on you
Email: Your employer emails you when your self-assessment is open. If you haven't submitted your self-assessment, your employer can also send you a performance review reminder email. The reminder email includes the cycle name, the due date, and a link to the employee portal.
To Do label: While your self-assessment is open and not submitted, the Self-Assessment menu item in the employee portal shows a To Do label. The To Do label is hidden while you're on the Self-Assessment page and goes away for good once you submit. If you leave the Self-Assessment page without submitting, the To Do label shows again.
Past Due label: Starting the day after your self-assessment due date, the Self-Assessment menu item shows a Past Due label in place of the To Do label until you submit.
Complete and submit your self-assessment
Go to www.mypatriot.com or www.payrolltime.com to log in to the employee portal.
Select Self-Assessment in the left-side navigation.
The Self-Assessment menu item appears only after your employer includes you in a performance review cycle.
The Self-Assessment page shows the cycle name, start date, and self-assessment due date, followed by your employer's questions.
Answer each question. Your answers save automatically as you type. You can also select Save as draft and come back later.
Long-answer fields include a formatting toolbar for bold, italic, and underlined text, bulleted and numbered lists, and other formatting. Long-answer fields also include spell check. Your formatting is kept in your shared performance review and PDF.
When every question has an answer, select Submit.
Confirm that you want to submit.
Patriot emails your reviewer when you submit your self-assessment.
Things to know about submitting a self-assessment
Every question is required. The Submit button stays unavailable until you answer every question.
Your reviewer sees your self-assessment answers.
After you submit, you can't edit your self-assessment. If you need to make a change, ask your employer's admin to send the self-assessment back to you. When your self-assessment is sent back, your earlier answers are kept, the Self-Assessment menu item shows the To Do label again, and you can edit and resubmit. Patriot doesn't email you when your self-assessment is sent back.
If the due date passes before you submit, a past-due banner appears on the Self-Assessment page. You can still submit until your employer ends the cycle. You can't submit a self-assessment after your employer ends the review cycle.
If you don't have a reviewer
Some employees, such as employees at the top of the company's org chart, don't have a reviewer. If you don't have a reviewer, your performance review is finished once you submit your self-assessment. The Self-Assessment page shows "Your review is complete. You don't have a reviewer, so there's nothing to acknowledge." You can still view your submitted answers when you look at the cycle later.
How to View and Acknowledge Your Shared Performance Review
Patriot emails you when your reviewer or your employer's admin shares your performance review with you. If you haven't acknowledged your shared performance review, your employer can also send you a reminder email to acknowledge it.
To view your shared performance review, log in to the employee portal.
Select Self-Assessment.
Your shared performance review shows your self-assessment answers and your reviewer's assessment side by side.
To acknowledge your performance review, select Acknowledge review.
Acknowledging a performance review confirms you've read it; Patriot records the date. Your employer and reviewer can see that you acknowledged the review.
How to Download Your Performance Review
You can download your performance review as a PDF after your reviewer shares it. To download your performance review:
Log in to the employee portal and select Self-Assessment. For a past performance review, choose the cycle from the cycle dropdown.
On your shared performance review, select Download PDF.
In your browser's print window, choose Save as PDF as the destination and save the file.
How to View Your Past Performance Reviews
To view a past performance review, log in to the employee portal, select Self-Assessment, and choose the cycle from the cycle dropdown. Past performance reviews are read-only. You keep access to your past performance reviews in the employee portal even if you no longer work for the employer.
